The current American flag was designed in 1958 by a 17-year old for a high school project. At the time, Hawaii and Alaska weren't part of the union yet, and the 50 stars flag was deemed worthy of a B-. However, the grading was updated to an A once President Eisenhower selected the design as the official flag of the United States.
